Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Rain Drop

Erin Wittenberg

1

Born from a dark cloud in the sky

To begin a much larger storm

A single drop falls

2

A cloud’s tear

Showers from the heavens

A cry from the gods

3

A single splash in a bright yellow pale

Brings an endless day of fun

Only to stop when the water has gone

4

A descent so long, and far

To crack and break

One drop has become many

5

Smaller parts create one bigger part

Each too small for our eyes

6

A splatter across a puddle

The raindrop is gone

In its place a wave

7

A raindrop washes away the old

A new life reborn

Here comes the storm

8

A crack that shakes floors

A Light that creates ash

That follows a single raindrop

9

A single raindrop

In the smallest ocean

Will bring the largest tsunami

10

Where has all the clean water gone?

Down the dirty drain

From dirty sphere above

11

One drop will splash into millions

To find more water

To flow down a drain

12

The never ending cycle

Down from the dark cloud

Into our mouths

Back into the ocean

13

One dark cloud brings a single raindrop

And many more yet to come

They don't ever stop

What was once a drop

Is now a hurricane
